Paul McCartney is speaking out after Beyoncé rerecorded one of his biggest hits for her new album Cowboy Carter.

On the singer’s newest album, Beyoncé shared her rendition of McCartney’s Blackbird.

In the Instagram post sharing his thoughts on the song, McCartney revealed he has talked with Beyoncé since hearing her version of the song, and she thanked him for allowing her to do so.

“I told her the pleasure was all mine and I thought she had done a killer version of the song,” McCartney revealed in an Instagram post. “I’m so happy with Beyoncè’s version of my song.”

“I think she does a magnificent version of it and it reinforces the civil rights message that inspired me to write the song in the first place,” McCartney explained. “I think Beyoncé has done a fab version and would urge anyone who has not heard it yet to check it out. You are going to love it!”

The legendary songwriter continued explaining what he felt the day he wrote Blackbird. “When I saw the footage on the television in the early 60s of the black girls being turned away from school, I found it shocking and I can’t believe that still in these days there are places where this kind of thing is happening right now. Anything my song and Beyoncé’s fabulous version can do to ease racial tension would be a great thing and makes me very proud.”

McCartney’s rave reviews come after the album has been met with some extremely high praise as well as some pushback from those who think Beyoncé shouldn’t have transitioned into country music.Yet despite the naysayers, as it’s been reported, Beyoncé has one of the biggest Country music legends on her side, Dolly Parton.Beyoncé also rerecorded one of Dolly’s biggest hits for the album as well, Jolene. Dolly only had rave reviews as well.
