Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have renewed their wedding vows.
The 65-year-old former talk show host and the 50-year-old Ally McBeal actress were seen in their new home as they said ‘I do’ all over again in front of pal Kris Jenner who served as officiant, as well as Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and his wife Meghan Markle as guests.
It has been 15 years since they first tied the knot at their home in Los Angeles.
Portia sweetly was wearing her old wedding gown from when she walked down the aisle to Ellen in 2008. Ellen was much more dressed down in a blue jacket and khaki slacks with sneakers.
Ellen was surprised with the renewal, thinking she was merely attending Portia’s birthday celebration.
Ellen shared the video to her Instagram page.
‘Portia surprised me at her birthday party by renewing our vows,’ wrote the stand up comedienne.
‘Thank you @KrisJenner for officiating and @BrandiCarlile for performing, and Portia for being the greatest gift to me, even on your birthday.
‘You can watch the whole video on my YouTube.’
In the video Portia is seen walking through a sea of people in the wedding gown until she comes in front of Ellen who is shocked with mouth agape.
‘Oh my God!’ she said as she had no clue it was a wedding vow renewal. Ellen thought they were just celebrating Portia’s birthday.
At one point Ellen and Portia were seen holding hands as they looked into each other’s eyes. They were also each holding long-stemmed white flowers.
The home was massive with high wood beamed ceilings, natural blonde wood floors, bleached wood cabinets and black and white modern paintings.
Keeping Up With The Kardashians producer and Kardashian/Jenner manager Kris was also seen at the vow renewals as she served as officiant. She read from a piece of paper as she oversaw the ceremony. Jenner wore a white coat and black leather slacks as she adjusted her prescription glasses.
Kris and Ellen have been close friends for decades.
Speaking in a video posted to Ellen’s YouTube channel on Thursday Kris said: ‘These two were born for each other, and Corey [Gamble] and I have spent so much time with them as their friends, neighbors, cocktail buddies and late-night chat sessions.
‘These two are couple goals who continue to amaze me with how cute they are together. A match made in heaven. Two peas in a pod. Their love and commitment to one another is amazing and it makes me so happy that they each have each other to love and cherish and grow old with.”
The Kardashians star then invited Portia to say a few words who explained that she wanted to make her milestone birthday ‘special’ with the ceremony and noted that her wife is the ‘most important thing’ in the world to her as she admitted ‘looking forward’ to doing whatever they like in the future after Ellen stepped down from the self-titled ABC chat show last year following a 19-season run.
She said: ‘When I was thinking about what would make my birthday special, apart from being with family and friends, it was reminding you that you are the most important thing in the world to me. In front of family and friends.
‘I was thinking about my life, my accomplishments, as you do when you have a big birthday, and it all just kept leading back to you and I thought what greater accomplishment can I ever, ever, ever have than being loved by someone, who is so magnificent, by someone who is as incredible as you.
‘I’m just so excited for the future where we just get to do whatever the hell we want for the rest of our lives. How lucky I am to be with somebody who accepts me for exactly who I am, who loves me for exactly who I am. It’s you, thingy, it always has been. I will always love you. I am so honored to be your wife.’
Brandi Carlile sang The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face made famous by Roberta Flack.
The home appeared to be a new one for the pair.
In December, the couple bought for $70M two adjoining properties in upscale Carpinteria, a small seaside city in southeastern Santa Barbara County, California.
It is not clear if this is the same house they renewed their vows in.
Ellen and Portia wed in an intimate ceremony on the grounds of their LA home in 2008.
Fewer than 20 of the couple’s family and friends gathered at sunset for the civil service ceremony but the event attracted a swarm of press anxious to get a glimpse of the couple.
As they posed for official photographers, the loved-up pair were clearly enjoying their big day.
Former comic and sitcom star DeGeneres wore a loose-fitting white chiffon shirt, white waistcoat and trousers while de Rossi wore a cream and pale pink halterneck dress by designer Zac Posen.
The couple have been dating since December 2004 and DeGeneres announced her plans to wed her lover on her chat show in May.
It came after the California Supreme Court ruled that same sex couples have the right to wed.
When announcing the upcoming nuptials, DeGeneres said: ‘It’s something that we’ve wanted to do and we want it to be legal and we are very, very excited.’
She joked: ‘Planning a wedding is very stressful. It’s crazy. My gardener is now invited.’
But added: ‘I think someday people will look back on this like women not having the right to vote and segregation and anything else that seems ridiculous that we don’t all have the same rights.’
DeGeneres said at the time that she planned to fly de Rossi’s family in from Australia and that ‘incredible people’ would sing at the ceremony.
She said she would show ‘a tiny bit’ of the nuptials on her talk show – and joked that she would use her latest Daytime Emmy as a wedding-cake topper.
