American country music singer and actor Billy Ray Cyrus has announced his engagement to the Australian singer, Firerose.
This year has been full of ups and downs for the 61-year-old musician, who recently lost his mother four months after his divorce from Tish, his wife of 28 years.
“After two previous divorce filings, Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus finally decided to go their separate ways in April 2022,” People reported in July 2022.
“Tish filed for divorce in Williamson County, Tenn., after 28 years of marriage, citing ‘irreconcilable differences,’ according to the documents obtained.”
Speaking to the outlet, the former couple said in a joint statement that it was time to move on from their relationship and carve new paths.
“We have grown up together, raised a family we can be so proud of, and it is now time to create our own paths.”
The couple tied the knot in 1993 and share three children together – Miley Cyrus, Noah Cyrus, and Braison Cyrus.
In his latest interview the People Magazine, the Achy Breaky Heart hitmaker got candid about his life and the incidents that took place in the last few months.
“For everything that’s good, there’s always been something equally as bad.” Said Cyrus. “That’s been my experience, and I’ve never really known the middle.”
“So, after a period of ‘bad’ (my divorce in April, and my mother Ruth Ann Casto’s passing four months later) I’m finally getting some ‘good’ from life,” he said. “I am engaged to her, and she’s the real deal.”
Following his divorce from Tish, Billy started dating the Australian singer, and it was reported earlier that they were getting along really well.
“They’ve been dating for a little while,” an insider revealed to PEOPLE. “They grew close while working on music together. It is what it is. He and Tish were over before he started dating her.”
In September, Firerose sparked engagement rumors after posting a photo wearing a diamond ring on her ring finger.
“Billy looked at me and said, ‘Do you, do you wanna marry me?’ And I was just like, ‘Of course I do. I love you.’ He said, “I love you. I wanna make this official. I wanna be with you forever.’” She told People.
After his split from Tish, some reports suggested that the musician had a rift with his three children regarding the divorce and his relationship with the Australian singer.
But in his latest interview, Billy revealed that his kids were very well aware of the fact that their parents’ marriage was over years ago.
“Everyone knew that that relationship was over a long time ago. Everybody’s turning the page. It’s been a lot, but everyone knew that it was time for a change,” he said.
The Butterfly Fly Away singer became emotional while talking about his mother’s loss and then his engagement with his new love.
“I’ve spent my life worrying about things that are beyond my control. But at this spot in my life, knowing that all you really have is the happiness that you feel inside your mind and your heart…” he sobbed.
“Finding Firerose and getting engaged and then losing my mom [a few weeks later]—see? The teeter-totter will not stay in the middle.” He said while crying.
“But having somebody to ride it out with now—that’s giving me a little more balance.”
