There are many objects we may have around the house that serve a useful purpose. Some of these are tucked away in drawers but others find their way into a box and we may not see them for years.

Sometimes, enough time has passed that we don’t even recognize the items that we pull out of a box. You might find them in various areas of the home, and although they may have meant something to our parents or grandparents, they make us wonder what they were used for.

That is the case with the vintage treasure we have for you below. It may look unusual, but it served a very useful purpose.

The item is glass and marble and it is used to sharpen razor blades. It may have been mounted on a metal base or a base made of wood but in either case, they were often used because razor blades were not disposable.

More than likely, your great-grandmother or great-great-grandmother used these because they were popular in the late 1800s. The item was very useful for its purpose, but it was also interesting to look at and have around.

When used properly, you could put a razor-sharp edge on small razor blades and knives. It may have been a small piece of history, but it is one that shows us how important those items were at the time.

These days, many of the items we have are nothing more than throw-away trinkets. It’s interesting to think back to a time when you would continue to use those items over and over again.
