The royal family has been in the news quite frequently recently, and now Princess Anne is making headlines. She is the sister of King Charles and she was recently hospitalized.

According to reports, the 73-year-old princess suffered minor injuries and a concussion when an incident occurred at her country estate. It seems as if it occurred late Sunday, and she was walking around her property when it took place.

They dispatched ambulances to her estate quickly and they treated her on-scene before transferring her to the hospital. The family was present, and she was accompanied by her spouse, Sir Timothy Laurence.

There has not been any word yet as to the extent of the injury, aside from the initial report. According to a report from the Associated Press, the head injuries were similar to what would occur when a horse’s leg were to impact the head.

A statement was also issued by Buckingham Palace:

“Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation. The King has been kept closely informed and joins the whole royal family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to The Princess for a speedy recovery.”

It is known that Princess Anne is an accomplished horsewoman. In 1976, she competed in the Montréal Olympics on the equestrian team. She recently rode horseback during Trooping the Colour on June 15.

As a result of the injury, Princess Anne will have to adjust her schedule while she recovers. This includes missing a Japanese state visit on June 25.

A palace spokesperson said: “On doctors’ advice, Her Royal Highness’s engagements for the week ahead will be postponed. Her Royal Highness sends her apologies to any who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result. The Japanese state visit will go ahead as planned, though sadly Her Royal Highness will be unable to attend the state banquet tomorrow.”

It is expected that the Princess will be home this week but she is currently at the hospital as a precautionary measure.
