Kate Middleton’s journey towards recovering from her abdominal surgery continues. The Princess of Wales is said to be doing well after returning from her 13-day hospital stay and has even been traveling to Anmer Hall in Sandringham to spend time with her husband and children.
Few updates have been made about Kate Middleton’s recovery, but last week, Prince William finally broke the silence, giving at least a hint of how she is doing. At the same time, she won’t be back to royal duty at least until after Easter, but likely, she won’t miss out on being able to engage herself on one of her favorite days of the year.
Princess Kate has always been vocal about destigmatizing mental health in all fields. Last year, on World Mental Health Day, the princess made an inspiring speech and wore some special charity earrings with a very special background. Therefore, one jewelry company now wants to thank Kate back – and just launched something extraordinary.
Kate Middleton has proven very popular since becoming a member of the Royal Family. This is helped by how she engages with members of the public, but also her down-to-earth approach that covers everything from the way she talks to the way she dresses.
Kate Middleton – patronages
Which is why it’s strange whenever criticism is leveled at her.
Over the years, Kate has taken on several royal patronages. The Princess of Wales has shown a strong interest in many good causes, including sports, history, child care, and mental health.
Every year, each member of The Firm receives many requests from different organizations asking for their support. The official royal website describes that the so-called patronages “add status to an organization, and visits and involvement from a Royal Patron can often bring much-needed publicity.”
Since the royals get hundreds of requests each year, the members usually limit their patronages to a manageable number to give each organization quality time. Kate Middleton has done precisely that.
Some of her patronages include Action for Children – helping with family support, foster care, adoption, child neglect, and disability respite therapy – and the children’s mental health charity Anna Freud National Centre For Children And Families.
One of the patronages closest to Kate’s heart is East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices, which supports families and cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions. Moreover, she is involved with the Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Kate has taken on about 20 royal patronages throughout her time in the Royal Family. Queen Elizabeth II covered more than 600 during her lifetime, so it’s safe to say Kate has a long road ahead.
Kate Middleton’s passion for breaking stigma on mental health
Though she has a range of titles that reflect her external interests – such as the Royal Photographic Society and the Rugby Football Union – in June 2021, Kate founded the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood to help coordinate her work with children. It is also supposed to serve as a point of contact for other charities on the same subject that the princess could help and be a part of on her own.
Meanwhile Kate has her own patronages, she and WIlliam are also doing many of these things together in order to shine light on nationalwide – and even worldwide – issues. One of those things is mental health, and last year, they went full power.
Last year in October, on World Mental Health Day, Prince William and Kate made a joint appearance to host Exploring our Emotional Words, a forum in Birmingham for young people where they can talk about their communities as well as emotions.
During the event, Kate took the stage and delivered quite a rare speech, telling the youth about how it’s crucial to break the stigma around mental health.
“Mental health is something we both care deeply about,” Kate began her speech.
Back in 2016, we launched Heads Together, a campaign supported by so many wonderful partners that helped break the stigma around mental health, and encouraged more people to have everyday conversations about it. Alongside the efforts of many others, we have seen real change. Today, more people feel empowered to talk about their mental health than ever before. This is a major step forward.“
Kate continued her speech by saying how she and her husband “continue to be inspired to see young people” being very brave in “having some of those conversations” themselves. Moreover, the Princess of Wales said she admired and applauded the fact that the young generation speaks more about mental health than the ones before them.
Kate Middleton says it’s “vital” to talk about mental health
“It is important, however, to remind ourselves of the big picture as we meet here today. What are we trying to improve by focusing our efforts on mental health? Ultimately, we are working to build a happier, healthier world. We want to shape fairer, safer, kinder, more equal societies—societies that seek the common good and a better future together;” she continued.
“So, we know, like you, that simply talking about mental health is just not enough. Because although many more conversations are now taking place, it is now vital we spend more time focusing on how we talk about our mental health—and crucially: What are we are going to do to build positive, preventative solutions to one of today’s toughest challenges?“
Prince William and Kate Middleton spent two hours at the forum in Birmingham but also split up for separate engagements the same day, all to highlight the importance of speaking about mental health openly.
The Princess of Wales spent her morning at Nottingham Trent University to get more information about how they worked to support those students who, at the start of the academic year, might have issues with their mental health.
At the university, Kate shared how she would’ve loved to become a student again. Not least because she enjoyed trying out new things and getting new hobbies while at St Andrews University, where she also met William for the first time.
Also, during her visit to Nottingham, Kate heard that the university has created a tool to see how engaged students are, which easier can help them identify those who are in need of extra support.
“The Princess is passionate about ensuring young people have the right tools in place to take care of their mental wellbeing, especially in relation to understanding and managing their own emotions,” Kensington Palace said in a statement.
Kate Middleton wore special earrings to raise money for mental health charity
“She is also focused on encouraging young people to build key protective factors such as healthy relationships and communities around them which will help them to lay stronger foundations as they move through life.”
Kate Middleton has been praised for her passion to break the stigma on mental health. But on World Mental Health Day last year, there was another detail that she was wearing which also left people praising her.
When appearing in Birmingham, Kate Middleton wore a pair of earrings which was given to her by Maidenhead Rugby Club coach Sarah Renton. The earrings were in memory of her daughter, Issy, who tragically ended her own life in early 2023.
They could be bought from he charity Brave Minds, and the fact that Kate wore them hopefully spread the word – and had people buying them – to raise awareness on mental health problems.
According to GB News, by wearing those earrings, Kate helped the brand raise over £10,000 for the mental health charity, Brave Mind.
As of today, Kate Middleton isn’t on any royal duty as she is still recovering from her abdominal surgery in January.
She won’t be back to royal duty until after Easter at the Earliest, and as World Mental Health Day occurs on October 10 every year, everyone, of course, hopes she will be back then.
Kate honored by jewelry brand in sweet tribute
Meanwhile, now, a jewelry brand has decided to honor Kate with a sweet tribute as she recovers from her surgery. In a statement, Jewelry brand Earsass has just launched a new pair of earrings named after the Princess of Wales. They were intended to serve as a “thank you” to Kate for wearing the “Issy Star” charity earrings for last year’s. World Mental Health Day.
The new earrings are called “The Catherine.” They combine a 14k gold-plated or silver hoop with delicate blush pink glass beads. On X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday morning, Earsass announced the earrings – and they sold out in less than two hours.
Sophie McGown founded the jewelry brand EarSass in 2020 as a lockdown project, and she is, in fact, the late Issy’s cousin. All of her earrings are designed after inspirational and influential people in her life.
Luckily for royal fans, “The Catherine” earrings can be pre-ordered again.
“We wanted to honour HRH Princess Catherine with her very own pair of EarSass. We are so grateful for how she has helped us to raise thousands for Brave Mind through wearing our Issy Star earrings and we will be eternally grateful,” the statement from the jewelry brand read.
“She is not only the future Queen but also a devoted mother and fashion icon. These small glass beaded hoops are unique, beautifully elegant and timeless – just like the princess. These earrings would make the perfect gift for any devoted mother, wife, sister, best friend or absolutely anyone special in your life.”
